Panasqueira mine

Panasqueira mine, Portugal. Producing, underground, mining tungsten since 1896.

Why Panasqueira is famous

Portugal's Panasqueira is an underground tungsten mine. The first licence dates from 1886 and wolframite was noted in 1888. A mining company formed in 1896 and the mine ran more or less continuously, apart from a pause at the end of the Second World War and a closure in the mid-1990s. Almonty bought it in 2016.1,2,3
